Reading through the Bible
"To all God's beloved...who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!" -Romans 1:7
Welcome to you all! Whether you have been invited or you have stumbled across this site on accident, you are encouraged to use FAITH FERTILIZER as your ongoing resource for Bible study throughout the year. I hope to post new information, articles, and links each month to help you 1) become more literate in Bible content and 2) begin to wrestle with what that content means.
Before you dive into this site's reading schedule and resources there are a few things you should know:
1) I will quote and refer to Biblical content from the New Revised Standard Version. This is a particular English translation of the original Biblical books which were written in Hebrew and Greek. If you would like more information on Bible translations and the challenges that come with it, check out this blog article from "Enter the Bible".
2) There are many different ways to approach reading the Bible. On this website we will be focusing on four methods in particular: devotional reading, historical reading, literary reading, and Lutheran theological reading. The ELCA's Bible study publication called, The Book of Faith, has helpful information on each of these approaches which you can find here.
3) Find a conversation partner! We are part of the community of faith and were not meant to read and study in isolation. You are all encouraged, whether you are a church member or not, to use the Christ's Lutheran facebook page as a place to get started in conversation. Post questions, comments, a favorite quote, resources you have found on your own, or something else!
